Why this exists

Homeowners ask a plumber the same questions over and over. Where's my main shutoff? Is this an emergency, or can it wait until morning? What's safe to try myself, and what isn't? The answers are usually simple, but they're hard to find in plain words, and a lot of what's online is written to sell you a service call.

So the answers got written down. That's what the printables are: the things a plumber would tell a friend, on paper you can stick on the fridge or keep in a binder.

Why stay anonymous?

So the advice stays honest. There's no company behind Honest Bob Co to send you a truck, no employer to protect, and no reason to talk you into anything. If a job is simple, we'll say so. If it's a job for a pro, we'll say that too.

We won't promise results or savings. Every house is different. What we can do is tell you what to check first, what to leave alone, and when to pick up the phone.

Who's Bob?

Bob is a plumb bob: a pointed weight on a string that tradespeople hang to find a true vertical line. It doesn't lean one way or the other. That's the whole idea.

You'll see him two ways. Classic Bob is on the printables. Rugged Bob, with the beard, cap, and flannel, is on the work gear.
